SEBASTIAN — Gov. Ron DeSantis made an unannounced, public appearance Friday night at Sebastian River High School and watched the first quarter of Vero Beach’s game against Miami Palmetto.
Before the game started, DeSantis watched his son Mason, 4, flip the coin.
DeSantis, his wife Casey, and their three children Madison, Mason and Mamie, came onto the field just before the coin toss.
He waved to the crowd multiple times on his way to midfield. DeSantis did not address the crowd.
On Thursday, Vero Beach’s home game was moved to Sebastian River after the Citrus Bowl field was deemed unplayable because of heavy rainfall earlier in the week.
DeSantis is no stranger to high school football and was part of the pre-game coin toss at the Class 3A state championship game in Tallahassee in December.
This is the second time in two years DeSantis conducted the coin toss at a Vero Beach football game.
