Schools, activities, government offices closing as Subtropical Storm Nicole approaches

Schools, activities, government offices closing as Subtropical Storm Nicole approaches

Subtropical Storm Nicole was expected to be a Category One hurricane by its anticipated landfall somewhere between Cape Canaveral and Miami on Wednesday or Thursday, according to meteorologists with National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center on Monday Nov. 7, 2022.

Subtropical Storm Nicole is expected to make landfall on or near the Treasure Coast sometime Wednesday or Thursday. In anticipation, closings across the area already have been announced.

Schools

The Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin county school districts and all campuses of Indian River State College will close Wednesday and Thursday for the storm.

Public school classes and all classes at IRSC already were to be closed Friday for Veterans Day.

Entertainment

The River Nights program, sponsored by the city of Port St. Lucie and scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, is canceled. 

Veterans Day

Port St. Lucie’s observance, scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday in Veterans Memorial Park, will be held inside the Community Center instead.

Government offices

St. Lucie County Tax Collector’s Office will be closed Wednesday and Thursday because of the storm, and Friday for Veterans Day.
