What to watch for at Class 1A, 2A state swimming championships

The 1A and 2A state swimming and diving championships take place Friday and Saturday in Stuart after Hurricane Nicole coming through the Treasure Coast on Nov. 10 postponed proceedings one week.

In the 2A meet on Saturday, Jensen Beach will send nine total qualifiers among their boys and girls on the roster in individual events and a familiar last name will be seeking her first gold medal in an individual event.

Falcon junior Brynn Stoneburg, the younger sister of Blair Stoneburg, who won seven individual gold medals in her career, will be right in the mix for the top spot in the 200 freestyle.

Local and area schools compete in the swimming and diving District 6-1A championship on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce.

Brooke Beede, of Academy of the Holy Names, Stoneburg and Estero’s Cadence Fort are the top three seeds entering preliminary swims all within a minute of each other.

Jensen Beach senior Ayden Cason will look to improve upon a sixth-place finish in the 100 freestyle from last year and enters with the fourth-fastest time in the event.

The action begins Friday with the 1A competition, with preliminary swims and boys diving both starting at 9 a.m. at Sailfish Splash Waterpark.

Girls diving begins at 1:30 p.m. on both days and swimming finals begin at 5:30 p.m.
