MARTIN COUNTY — A car collided with fuel tanks on a tractor trailer and injured one person in Hobe Sound Tuesday, according to Martin County Fire Rescue officials.
The car collided with fuel tanks that were on the side of a truck, spilling an estimated 100 gallons of diesel fuel on grass off Southeast Bridge Road around 11 a.m., said Cory Pippin, a fire rescue spokesperson.
The Department of Environmental Protection was notified of the fuel spill, Pippin said.
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, diesel is not flammable, but it is combustible, making it a fire hazard.

The spill closed traffic in one lane for cleanup, Pippin said.
The driver of the car, which was headed east, veered into the westbound lane where the tractor trailer was, near the intersection of Southeast Bridge and Southeast Powerline roads.
Fire rescue personnel transported the driver of the car to Cleveland Clinic Martin South Hospital, Pippin said. He said he didn’t know the extent of the person’s injuries.
The truck driver was not injured, he said.
Two lanes of Southeast Bridge Road may be closed when a wrecker moves the tractor trailer, Pippin said.
