INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Sebastian woman won a $1 million prize from the Florida Lottery, state officials announced Tuesday.

Karen Gibbons, 61, claimed her prize Sept. 8, said Michelle McFatter, a spokesperson for the Florida Lottery.

Gibbons chose to receive her winnings in a one-time payment of $820,000, Lottery officials said.

The ticket was part of the $50 game 500X THE CASH.

Publix at 13435 U.S. 1 in Sebastian sold Gibbons the winning ticket and will receive a $2,000 bonus from the lottery.

It’s the second Publix announced in two days in Sebastian to have sold million-dollar winning Lottery tickets.

Lottery officials announced Monday a Vero Beach woman, 30, claimed a $2 million prize in the 100X THE CASH  scratch-off game. She took the money in a lump-sum amount of $1.645 million on Aug. 24.

She bought her ticket from Publix in the 1400 block of Sebastian Boulevard. That store got a $4,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

The names of Lottery winners who claim prizes of $250,000 or more are temporarily exempt from public disclosure for 90 days of the date the prize is claimed, unless the winner waives it, according to the Lottery.
