Port St. Lucie man dies in crash with pickup truck

PORT ST. LUCIE − A Port St. Lucie man died Friday when his pickup collided with another pickup on St. James Drive at Northwest Scepter Drive.

Just before 11 a.m., the man, 66, was traveling north in his 2001 black Ford Ranger on St. James Drive approaching Northwest Scepter Drive, according to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. James Kudla.

A woman, 46, from Fort Pierce, was traveling south on St. James Drive approaching Northwest Scepter Drive in her 2016 red Chevrolet Colorado.

The man lost control for unknown reasons, Kudla said, causing his truck to head northwest, over a raised curb, and onto the grass median where it struck multiple bushes.

It continued into the southbound lanes where the front of the pickup struck the left side of the woman’s Chevrolet. She had minor injuries, Kudla said.

The man’s pickup overturned and came to rest facing north on its left side in the southbound outside lane.

The woman’s pickup came to rest facing northeast in the outside lane and west shoulder.

All lanes were blocked for a while on St. James Drive.

The man was pronounced dead at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce.

Kudla, a traffic homicide investigations supervisor, said the crash is an ongoing investigation.

FHP did not release the names of those involved in the crash.

No other information was available Friday evening.
