JENSEN BEACH — A 40-year-old Port St. Lucie man has died, and a 22-year-old Port St. Lucie man was taken to a trauma center after a car crash Monday morning at the intersection of Northwest Eugenia Street and Northwest U.S. 1.

The two-vehicle crash happened about 9:45 a.m. and has left northbound traffic on U.S. 1 blocked for hours, as of 3 p.m. Monday.

The 40-year-old man was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck southbound in the left turn lane on U.S. 1, according to an FHP news release. When he was turning left, headed east for the Exxon gas station, the right side of the car was struck by a 2017 Infinity G60 driven by the 22-year-old, according to an FHP report.

Both cars came to a stop on the right shoulder of the intersection.

The 40-year-old, whose name has not been released by authorities, died at the scene.

The 22-year-old, who also has not been named by authorities, sustained incapacitating injuries and was flown by helicopter to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, according to FHP spokesperson James Kudla.
