Six student-athletes are in consideration for TCPalm’s Athlete of the Week vote for games and events during the week of Jan. 23-28.

Last week, Sebastian River weightlifter Vanessa Rodriguez received over 8,500 votes to earn Athlete of the Week honors after she won individual titles at the District 15-2A meet in the 119-pound division lifting 95 pounds for the snatch, 125 pounds on the bench press and 145 pounds on the clean-and-jerk.

This week’s poll will open at noon on Monday and will close Thursday at noon.

Coaches can email scores to [email protected] or [email protected] each night in order for athletes to be considered to be nominated each week.

Giovanna Waksman, Pine School

In the District 8-2A championship match on Jan. 31, Waksman scored all three goals including the match-winner in the 70th minute to send the Knights to a 3-2 win over Jupiter Christian.

Jack James, Jensen Beach

In the District 13-4A championship match on Jan. 31, James netted a pair of goals in the first half to help the Falcons earn a 3-2 win over American Heritage for their first district title since 2009.

Lauren Cioffi, Jensen Beach

In the Falcons’ 49-29 win in the District 14-5A semifinal against Northeast on Feb. 1, Cioffi put up 18 points and 17 rebounds as Jensen Beach would finish as the district runner-up.

Ryan Rodriguez, Port St. Lucie

In three wins for the week and helping the Jaguars win their last six games, Rodriguez averaged 20.6 points and five rebounds in the three victories and notably scored 25 points in a 66-61 win over John Carroll Catholic on Feb. 3.

Karma French, Vero Beach

At the Region 3-4A Championship on Feb. 4, French was the top lifter at 110 pounds in both the Olympic and traditional lifts putting up 120 pounds for the snatch, 135 pounds on the bench press and 150 pounds for the clean-and-jerk for totals of 270 pounds in the Olympic lifts and 285 for the traditional lifts.

Isabella Ramirez, John Carroll Catholic

At the Region 4-1A Championship on Feb. 4, Ramirez was the top lifter in the unlimited division for the Olympic lifts putting up 135 pounds for the snatch and 185 pounds on the clean-and-jerk.
