PORT ST. LUCIE − A 53-year-old Port St. Lucie resident claimed a $1 million prize from the 500X THE CASH lottery scratch-off game, the Florida Lottery announced Thurday.
Darrin Thorpe chose to get his winnings as a one-time payment of $820,000.
Although the Lottery announced the win Thurday, Thorpe claimed the prize on Nov. 2, 2022, said Michelle McFatter, Florida Lottery spokesperson.

Thorpe bought the ticket from a Circle K store in the 400 block of Southeast Port St. Lucie Boulevard in Port St. Lucie.
A $2,000 bonus commission goes to the store for selling the ticket.
Beginning last May, the names of Lottery winners who claim prizes of $250,000 or more are temporarily exempt from public disclosure for 90 days of the date the prize is claimed, unless the winner waives it, according to the Lottery.
