Area lifters look for state success in Lakeland at FHSAA girls weightlifting championships

31 girls from nine high schools will represent the Treasure Coast at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland on Saturday at the FHSAA Girls Weightlifting Championships.

A change at the start of the year for participants with two separate categories of lifts being condensed for the second year in a row looks a little different than last season.

The snatch lift was added to the clean-and-jerk and bench press and instead of being its own category as it was last season, the snatch is added to the clean-and-jerk for an Olympic lifts category to go along with the traditional lifts of bench press plus clean-and-jerk.

Last season, Vero Beach won the 3A team title in the snatch and even with a new category to chase after, the program has again has powerful lifters up and down the lineup.

Repeating as district and regional champions for the seventh year in a row, Vero Beach will have a number of girls in contention to be on the podium in 3A and some with even higher hopes to be at the top.
