HOBE SOUND — A 9-acre tennis club is to be built here on the east side of U.S.1 just north of Southeast Constitution Boulevard and Dollar General.

It got unanimous approval Tuesday from the County Commission. 

The Hobe Sound Tennis Center would include 12 tennis courts, a swimming pool and an 8,590-square-foot clubhouse with other amenities such as a yoga studio and gym, according to site plans.

The club would be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily with a “pay-to-play” format for daily, weekly, monthly and annual memberships, according to Troy Holloway, representative of the developer.

Opportunities to teach tennis to underprivileged youth through scholarships also will be sought, he added.

“It will provide members in the local community with opportunities to learn to play tennis at all levels both competitively and socially,” Holloway said of the center.

The project, proposed by Get Set & LLC. County commissioners called it “wonderful” and “fantastic.”

“It’s very nice,” said Commissioner Ed Ciampi.
