Eight student-athletes are in consideration for TCPalm’s Athlete of the Week after their performances during the week of Dec. 12-17.

Last week, Pine School basketball senior Shiv Patel was voted Athlete of the Week receiving 61 percent of the ballot after a week in which he averaged over 20 points a game in three wins and also became the program’s all-time leading scorer.

Coaches can email scores to [email protected] or [email protected] each night in order for athletes to be considered to be nominated each week.

This will be the final Athlete of the Week Poll for 2022, with the next poll to take place on Jan. 2. This week, voting beginning at noon Monday and will close Thursday at noon.

Ty Owens, Centennial

In two wins on the week for the Eagles, Owens scored 17 points in a 67-54 win over Vero Beach on Dec. 13 but was even better on Dec. 15 scoring 30 points and added nine assists and five steals in a 78-77 triple-overtime win over Jupiter.

Remi Dieujuste, Jr., Treasure Coast

In two wins during the week to help the Titans extend their winning streak to five games, Dieujuste scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 61-57 win over South Fork on Dec. 13 and added 18 points in a 81-60 win over Port St. Lucie on Dec. 15.

Delana Crawford, Morningside Academy

In three wins during the week for the Eagles to extend their winning streak to 10 games, Crawford averaged 30.3 points including a 36-point effort in a 54-26 win over Calvary Christian Academy on Dec. 15. Crawford scored 26 points against Dreyfoos on Dec. 12 and 29 points against Port St. Lucie on Dec. 13.

Osiel Bedolla, Sebastian River

In two matches helping the Sharks win the Indian River Cup on Dec. 16-17, Bedolla netted goals against Master’s Academy in a 3-1 win on Friday and scored in a 4-1 win in extra time over Vero Beach in the final.

Mia Calderon, Martin County

In three match wins for the week, Calderon netted a goal in each match for the Tigers. On Dec. 12 in a 4-0 win over Fort Pierce Central, she had a goal and an assist, in a 3-1 win over Pine School on Dec. 13 she scored one goal and in a 4-2 win over South Fork on Dec. 15 had a goal and an assist.

Sylas Bachler, Vero Beach

Leading his team to the team title at the Amanda St. John Holiday Tournament over the weekend, Bachler won all of his matches at 220 pounds to earn the title earning a 9-6 decision over Nicholas Caudill from the Villages in the final.

Sebastian Degennaro, Jensen Beach

Helping the Falcons take second place at the Johnny Rouse Duals over the weekend, Degennaro was unbeaten for the event earning four wins on technical falls and three wins via pin.

Briggett Perez, Lincoln Park Academy

At the Skylar White Girls Tournament over the weekend, Perez won the title at 125 pounds pinning all three of her opponents in the first round.
