Are you someone who makes New Year’s resolutions?

I prefer not to. If you don’t make a New Year’s resolution, then you’re not disappointed when you don’t follow through!

OK, that’s a bit of a cynical way to look at things, but I’m a journalist. We’re a cynical bunch.

While I choose not to make resolutions, there are things I hope to accomplish in 2023.

How about you?

Maybe you want to get outdoors more. Maybe take up fishing or boating?

Ed is a fifth-generation Floridian as his family has been in the Fort Pierce area since the late 1800s.

He’s also one of the most known and decorated outdoors and environmental reporters in the state.

We’ll talk about the cold weather we’ve been experiencing lately and how it doesn’t quite compare to what we had in 2009 and 2010. Those of you who lived in Florida will remember those years.

I do. All the plants in my front yard died.

Ed will also discuss the upcoming Miami International Boat Show. Someday, I plan to walk into that boat show and buy myself a yacht. Someday…

He tells us some of the barriers to entry of boat ownership.

“Prices are high and insurance is like impossible to get and insurance was impossible to get before the hurricanes hit,” Ed says during the podcast.

We’ll discuss those pesky frozen iguanas that fall out of trees and how they’re slowly making their way north in Florida. They used to be contained to the Keys and the southernmost areas the state.

Ed will also tell us what other types of animals can freeze and reanimate.

We’ll talk about some of the upcoming fishing seasons and what you’ll be looking to catch (and eat) in the first two or three months of the year.

I’ll also find out if Ed is a New Year’s resolution person.

Afterall, January is the top month for gyms, when many people sign up, but those numbers quickly wane as the months go on.

No, you don’t have to make resolutions for the new year. Instead, pledge to be a better person year round.
