St. Lucie County building ordered to lock down after shooting threat

FORT PIERCE — The St. Lucie County administration building was locked down Thursday morning after someone made a threat to shoot county employees, said county spokesperson Erick Gill.

Sheriff’s officials said dispatch received reports of a threat around 11:09 a.m.

Gill said the county administration building, 2300 Virginia Ave., was on lockdown until 12:05 p.m., with occupants locking themselves inside their offices or rooms.

“We had someone from the public upset with our building and permitting staff and they threatened to come over here and shoot employees,” Gill said. “We’re taking that threat seriously. We’ve called 911.”

Sheriff’s deputies were at the building, Gill said. The person who made the threat was not a current or former county employee, he said.

Investigators did not disclose how the threat was made or any information on the person making the threat.

There were no arrests, sheriff’s officials said.
