Nobody here needs an excuse to eat Italian food. It has always been one of our favorite cuisines.
So when a reader reaches out to urge us to try his favorite Italian restaurant, we have every reason to get there without delay. Thus, we set out for lunch at Aunt Louise’s Pizzeria in Sebastian.
Having just finished a complete renovation in the Riverwalk Shopping Center location, Aunt Louisa’s Pizzeria retains the ambiance of a traditional Italian pizzeria with charming old-world framed photographs hung and golden oldies songs playing.
We were seated promptly with drink orders taken as we looked over the extensive menu. In addition to the pizzas, wings, calamari, mussels, salads, calzones, Stromboli and subs, (phew) there are quite a few dinners on the menu, served with salads or soup and garlic knots or bread.
With eggplant rollatini ($15.24) being one of my favorite Italian meals, I was very pleased to see it on the menu. Long, very thin slices of coated eggplant were stuffed with ricotta and other cheeses before being rolled up into three scrumptious rolls, baked and generously covered with a nicely seasoned red sauce. A bowl of spaghetti, choice of house salad, Caesar or soup, and garlic knots or bread were served with the entrée. The labor-intensive eggplant dish was beautifully prepared and so delicious.

For Philly cheesesteak lovers out there, I must inform you that Aunt Louisa puts her own Italian stamp on the Philly deluxe cheesesteak ($11.25). The deluxe is a soft, toasted crisp sub roll overflowing with juicy beefsteak, mushrooms, onions and peppers and topped with melted provolone cheese. It is different from Pat’s or Geno’s in Philadelphia but it is really outstanding and my guest devoured it.
My second guest ordered spaghetti with meatballs ($14.48). As I mentioned earlier, the red sauce was very well seasoned and satisfying. The only disappointment was that the meatballs were cooked a little hard on the outside and slightly mushy on the inside. Just a bad day perhaps? The salads and bread that came with both dinners were yummy with the salads being fresh and cold and the garlic knots coming out hot.
As we waited for our lunch, we asked for a slice of cheese pizza ($3.49) cut into thirds so we could all sample. Aunt Louisa’s makes a really tasty, crispy crust pizza that I am anxious to have again soon.
Tucked away in a shopping plaza, I may have missed Aunt Louisa’s if not for the reader tip. Many thanks!
