ST. LUCIE COUNTY — A Port St. Lucie man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for having child sexual abuse material on his cell phone and in a storage account, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office on Thursday.

Nicholas James Sorgenfrey, 38, was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon in Fort Pierce, records state. 

He pleaded guilty to a possession of child pornography charge, and also will be on supervised release for 15 years after being released from prison.

The case began after investigators got a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to a criminal complaint filed Aug. 4, 2022. 

Officials a day earlier executed a search warrant at Sorgenfrey’s home on Southeast Gilbert Avenue in Port St. Lucie, the complaint states. 

Records show Sorgenfrey was a registered sex offender.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated Sorgenfrey uploaded “child sexual abuse material to his cell phone service provider’s cloud storage system.” 

“After a search of his residence, Sorgenfrey admitted to using social media apps to obtain sexually explicit images and videos,” a release stated. “A search of his phone revealed several videos depicting sexually explicit conduct of children, including preteen children.”
