INDIAN RIVER COUNTY − Slow moving freight trains snarled traffic at rail crossings across Vero Beach Thursday afternoon.
2 mph: Several people called police and took to social media to report long lines of train cars creeping north and south blocking, at one point or another, nearly all east-to-west streets. The railroad was moving freights onto adjacent tracks at switch points, to move in different directions, from roughly 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., police said.
Southbound: By 3:30 p.m., Vero Beach police said all major city crossings were clear after the last slow-moving freight made its way south.
Caution: At more than one crossing in the county during the work, the railroad crossing bars, which warn drivers of an approaching train, did not lower.
