Released in '66, this is a superb trio album by pianist "Roy Meriwether" from Dayton, Ohio, leading a sound with bassist "Issac Solan" and drummer "Joseph Arnold," with strong R&B influences and a powerful, flowing touch. This is a swinging masterpiece. He was the jazz pianist who most influenced the "Ramsey Lewis Trio."
Includes a super-cool cover of "Vince Guaraldi / Cast Your Fate To Wind" ◎. The true essence of his style blends a strong attack with a lyrical atmosphere, with "St. James Infirmary" and "Screwdriver" being incredibly cool. The standard "A Taste Of Honey" is also an excellent rendition.
The bluesy atmosphere of "Georgia On My Mind" is captivating. The classic "Satin Doll" ◎ with its refined groove will get you hooked. "Exodus," also familiar from "Eddie Harris," is a must-listen. This is a soulful masterpiece with a jet-black sound.
This is a top-tier trio, once selected for "The Readymade Hall Of Fame," supervised by Mr. Yasuharu Konishi, which celebrates Bacharach. While the '73 work "Nubian Lady" is famous among groove fans, this one is also recommended for connoisseurs.
'66, US, Columbia, original (CS-9233), Stereo, 2Eyes pressing. Dedicated to "Angie" with the artist's signature (image 9).
