Friday’s scores

Led by a technical fall from returning state champion Sebastian Degennaro and a pin from senior Ryan Mooney, Jensen Beach defeated Southwest Miami 38-37 to win the Gold Division at the Battle of the Beach duals competition kicking off wrestling season on Friday.

Mooney, who finished third in the state at 120 pounds in 1A, pinned Angel Delgado right at the end of the first period to give Jensen Beach the clinching points needed for the victory after the Falcons ran the tables in the event.

The Falcons defeated South Fork, Seminole Ridge and Treasure Coast in pool play and in the Gold Division defeated Fort Pierce Central 50-15 before their battle with Southwest Miami, last year’s 3A state runner-up in the individual format.

Jensen Beach’s Nate Sopotnick led the team with four victories via pin and Mooney, Ben Norris, Mikel Pierce-Walker, Dylan Fox, Luke Krakoff and Tobby Rooney had three pins.

Degennaro, a sophomore at 106 pounds, and senior Jewell Williams, who also won a state title last season at 138 pounds, did not drop a match the entire event.

Fort Pierce Central defeated Treasure Coast 58-18 to take third in the Gold Division and were led by Alaq Dowd-Grant, Myles Henkel, Daniel Echeverria and Aidan Madden, who all won three matches via pin.

Port St. Lucie won the Silver Division and the Jaguars were led by Jabari Yearby, who accumulated 25 points and did not drop a match the entire event.

Boys Basketball

Martin County 70, South Fork 46: Elijah Duval scored 20 and Cam Insalaco added 16 points to lead the way for the Tigers (3-1). Noah Josie scored 13 points for Martin County.

Imarion Stanberry scored 14 points and Matt Ancrum-Smith added eight points in the loss for the Bulldogs (3-1).

Girls Basketball

Jupiter 48, Treasure Coast 42: Jada Parson scored a game-high 17 points in the loss for the Titans (3-3). Telijah Filsaime scored nine points and Jenayah Lewis added six points for Treasure Coast, who led at halftime 27-23.

Boys Soccer

St. Edward’s 5, Deltona 0: Will Kourakis, Patricio Argote, Brogan Buck and Alejandro Azcona all scored a goal and picked up an assist to lead the way for the Pirates (5-0). Jason Britton scored a goal, Jah June added an assist and Alex Lee made 10 saves in goal to hold a clean sheet for St. Edward’s.

Girls Soccer

Deltona 3, St. Edward’s 2: Alma Czajkowski and Valentina Zavala each netted goals, Liz Campbell picked up an assist and Meagan Baker made three saves in the loss for the Pirates (0-3-1).

Boys Basketball

John Carroll Catholic 65, Cardinal Newman 50: Colin Jefferson scored 15 points and added five assists to lead the Rams (1-1) to their first win of the season. Aaron McFarlane added 14 points, four rebounds and four steals and Joaquin Ruiz scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds for John Carroll.

Girls Basketball

St. Edward’s 34, Odyssey Charter 19: Dhanika Perez scored a game-high 14 points to lead the way for the Pirates (5-2).

Boys Soccer

Centennial 3, Martin County 0: Kaelen Vilarson scored two goals and Fabrizio Capocci added another to help the Eagles (6-0) remain unbeaten. Diego Castillo picked up two assists, Ramiro Gamez had one assist and Jorge Rojas made two saves in goal to keep a clean sheet for Centennial.

Girls Soccer

Pine School 8, Glades Day 0: Giovanna Waksman scored four goals for the second match in a row to lead the way for the Knights (5-0). Keziah Anderson netted a hat trick and picked up two assists, Dalia Leonard and Fiona Defilippis had one assist each and Justina Southern made one save in goal to hold a clean sheet for Pine School.

Gavin Harte added a goal and an assist, Jahir Jean-Baptiste scored a goal, Lucas Tonnelli and Kenta Sano each picked up an assist and in goal, Michael Hinson and Juan Sarmiento combined for a clean sheet for Jensen Beach.

Girls Soccer

John Carroll Catholic 3, St. Edward’s 0: Carly Koomen, Halston Kraaz and Gianna Mandarino all hit the back of the net to lead the Rams (2-2) in the win. Katelyn Cristaldi picked up two assists, Irelynd Dempsey had an assist and Sarah Petersen made three saves for a clean sheet in goal for John Carrol.

Meagan Baker made four saves in goal for St. Edward’s.

Girls Basketball

Lincoln Park Academy 69, Fort Pierce Westwood 24: Juliana Ball scored 20 points, including six 3-pointers to lead the Greyhounds (4-1) in the win. Olivia Tetherington added 17 points and Ta’Tayannah Thompson and Nicole Williams each added eight points for Lincoln Park.

Treasure Coast 37, John Carroll Catholic 14: Jada Parson scored 17 points and Telijah Filsaime added 10 points to lead the way for the Titans (3-2). Isabella Echeverria chipped in six points for Treasure Coast.

Chelsey Francis led the Rams (3-1) with nine points.

St. Edward’s 40, Tradition Prep 15: Chase Nelson scored nine points to lead the Pirates (3-2) in the win. Adterria Holloway and Dhanika Perez each scored eight points and Gaby Collazo added six points for St. Edward’s.

Zoe O’Meary led Tradition Prep with seven points.

Boys Basketball

Fort Pierce Central 74, Port St. Lucie 64: Josh Banate scored 21 points and Christopher Maxon also scored 21 points and added 10 assists to lead the Cobras (4-1) to victory.

Ryan Rodriguez scored a game-high 27 points and added five assists and TJ Schuck scored 18 points in the loss for the Jaguars (1-3).

Okeechobee 49, Pahokee 31: Oliver Saunders scored a game-high 17 points to pace the Brahmans (3-1) in the win. Luke Bryan scored nine points and Bryce Ward added eight points for Okeechobee.

Boys Basketball

Vero Beach 82, Fort Pierce Westwood 43: Syncere Cannon scored a game-high 24 points, hitting four of Vero’s nine 3-pointers for the game to give head coach Shane Whissett his 200th career victory.

Eddrick Willis scored 19 points, Derrick Davey added 15 points and Jaylen Shelly chipped in nine points for Vero Beach (2-1).

Jamarion Taylor scored 12 points and Kendrick Owens added 10 points in the loss for the Panthers (0-3).

Treasure Coast 64, John Carroll Catholic 60 (OT): Tyson Wilson scored 15 points and Remi Dieujuste, Jr. added 10 points to lead the Titans (1-0) to victory in their season opener. Bek Fleurissant and Warren Sharry each added nine points for Treasure Coast.

Alex and Aaron McFarlane each scored 17 points and Pat Silas added nine points for the Rams.

Okeechobee 29, Jensen Beach 28: James Jaspar hit a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining to send the Brahmans (2-1) to victory. Jaspar scored a game-high 11 points and Oliver Saunders added nine points for Okeechobee.

Phil Clark scored 10 points and Grayson Lorello added eight points for the Falcons (0-3).

Girls Basketball

Jensen Beach 64, Port St. Lucie 24: Dani Bell scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Falcons (2-1) in the win. Lauren Cioffi added 14 points, Christen Bell scored nine points and Natalie Tobiaz chipped in nine points and five steals for Jensen Beach.

Martin County 57, Fort Pierce Central 45: Katelyn Tanis and Denasia Hilaire each scored 14 points to send the Tigers (4-1) to victory. Becca Witt added nine points and Kaylee Gumina scored eight points and added nine rebounds and six blocked shots for Martin County.

Girls Soccer

Pine School 9, Somerset College Prep 1: Giovanna Waksman scored four goas and added four assists to lead the Knights (4-0) to victory. Keziah Anderson scored two goals, Pippa Hilton-Green and Elena Schroeder added goals, Sydney and Hope Katz picked up an assist each and Justina Southern made two saves for Pine School.

Vero Beach 2, Martin County 2: Megan Murphy’s second-half penalty kick gave the Tigers (2-1-1) a draw. Delaney Gribben scored off an assist from Chapin Hotchkiss and keeper Dakota Moberg made eight saves for Martin County.

Madison Coddington and Tashiya McMillon netted goals from Vero Beach (1-1-2), who got assists from Avary Wilgeroth and Skyy Bell and keeper Sophia Leyda made five saves in goal.

Boys Soccer

Centennial 2, Okeechobee 0: Chris Djambazian and Ramiro Gamez netted goals to lead the way for the Eagles (5-0). Kaelen Vilarson and Julian Garcia picked up assists and Jorge Rojas kept a clean sheet making two saves for Centennial.

Martin County 8, Fort Pierce Central 0: Chapin Hotchkiss scored two goals to lead the way for the Tigers (2-1). Mia Calderon, Delaney Gribben and Kacey O’Donnell each had a goal and an assist, Kaylin Lingis, Megan Murphy and Mikayla Lynch all added a goal apiece and Monica Guitterez-Tax picked up an assist for Martin County.
