Cold weather shelter to open Friday in Martin County

Martin County officials plan to open a cold weather shelter Friday.

The weather for the evenings of Friday and Saturday is forecast to be at or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit for four hours or more, which is the parameter for opening shelters.

People seeking shelter must register in-person by noon Thursday, county officials said, and can do so at these locations:

∎ House of Hope, 2484 Southeast Bonita Street, Stuart

∎ Love and Hope in Action non-denominational church 1760 Southeast Salerno Road, Stuart

∎ Salvation Army, 821 Southeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Stuart

The location of the cold weather shelter and when it would open was unclear late Wednesday. A Martin County official could not be reached for clarification.
