NewsBrightline closure in Stuart to create detours on Dixie Highway, Decker Avenue

STUART — A Brightline crossing closure this week is to create detours in the heart of the city — at Southeast Decker Avenue and Southeast Dixie Highway.

Construction at railroad crossings has prompted numerous closures over the past year in Martin County as Brightline prepares to expand passenger-rail service from West Palm Beach to Orlando International Airport. Company officials have said construction along the corridor is expected to be complete this year.

The 10-day road closure is scheduled 7 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Feb. 27, according to Brightline.

Additionally, Brightline plans to keep its St. Lucie River bridge in Stuart in the down position for 21 days starting May 1 as it repairs the almost-100-year-old bridge — the only single-track stretch along the railroad’s 235-mile corridor between Miami and Orlando. Boaters will be unable to navigate through the channel during the closure.

The upcoming Stuart road closure is to span 10 days from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Feb. 27, according to Brightline.

Here’s where to detour:

  • Southbound traffic: Go west on East Florida Street to Southeast Johnson Avenue, then south to U.S.1. Go south to access Southeast Decker Avenue
  • Northbound traffic: Go north on U.S.1. to State Road 5A, then northeast to Southeast Dixie Highway. Go south to access Southeast Decker Avenue
