Motorcycle rider dies after crash on South U.S. 1, police say

FORT PIERCE — A motorcyclist died Monday after a traffic crash involving a sport utility vehicle on South U.S. 1, according to Fort Pierce police.

The crash happened about 9:50 a.m. Monday at South U.S. 1 and Edwards Road as a 21-year-old man rode south on a motorcycle, police stated.

Meanwhile, a Chevrolet Equinox was being driven north on South U.S. 1 and the driver tried to turn left, or west, onto Edwards Road.

The motorcycle and the Chevrolet crashed, and the motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital but died.

The Chevrolet driver, a man, wasn’t hurt, police stated.

Police did not identify anyone involved in the crash.

April Lee, police spokesperson, said investigators are working to determine who was at fault.
