Wednesday’s scores

Baseball

Centennial 4, Jensen Beach 2: Zach Staples struck out five and allowed two runs in six innings and Isaiah Ramos had a two-run double to help the Eagles (1-0) earn a road win in their season opener over last year’s 4A state runner-up.

Ramos sent a line drive the other way to right field in the second inning that gave Centennial an early 2-0 lead and the Eagles tacked on single runs in the third and fifth innings.

Staples cruised through four innings before Connor Cantillo launched a two-run home run to left to bring the Falcons (0-1) within striking distance in the fifth trailing 4-2.

In the seventh, Jensen Beach loaded the bases with two outs but Centennial reliever Christian Alonso struck out Cian Copeland on a 3-2 pitch to secure the victory.

Jake Breen threw five innings of relief and struck out five, allowing two unearned runs for the Falcons.

Vero Beach 4, Eau Gallie 2: Blake Holshouser struck out seven and allowed two hits in five shutout innings to lead Vero (1-0) to a win in their season opener. Keenan Jabeth went 2-for-3 with a triple, Finley Holmes had a double and scored two runs and Cam Perez had a hit and an RBI for Vero Beach.

Softball

Jensen Beach 4, John Carroll Catholic 0: Mallory Wheeler tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out eight and Izzy Ouelette had two hits and an RBI in the win for the Falcons (1-0). Martha Jones added a double and an RBI and Kylie Antoon drove in two runs for Jensen Beach.

Sophia Loreto threw a complete game, striking out six and allowed one earned run in the loss for the Rams (0-1).

Boys Lacrosse

South Fork 5, Sebastian River 4: Mitch Maurer, Ethan Mahler, Landen Mezzapelle, Dewey Gosselen and Elliot Nassin all scored a goal each to lead the Bulldogs (1-3) in the win.

Matt Essig scored three goals and Jordan Radock added a goal in the loss for the Sharks (0-2).

Martin County 5, Fort Pierce Central 2: Singles: Christina Stoyanova (FPC) d. Victoria Ponsoldt 8-5; Sophia Raley (MC) d. Ava St. Hilliare 8-0; Ashley Messer (MC) d. Martin County 10, Port St. Lucie 0 (5 innings): Nick Robert blasted a pair of home runs and drove in five to lead the way for the Tigers (2-0). Logan Saake went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Dylan Murphy went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Aidan McGucken struck out five in four innings and Paul Perry had one strikeout as the duo combined for a no-hitter for Martin County.

John Carroll Catholic 10, Fort Pierce Central 4: Tracen Cameron went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Taggert Cameron struck out nine in 4⅔ innings to send the Rams (1-0) to a season-opening win. Anthony Ferraro went 2-for-5 with a double and a triple and drove in two runs, Jaylyn Monds went 1-for-3 with two RBI, Jake Rychter went 2-for-3 with a double and Ryan Chapman struck out three in 2 1/3 innings of relief for John Carroll.

Sebastian River 4, Bayside 3: A sharp ground ball hit by Tyler Jones was misplayed to bring home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to send the Sharks (1-0) to a walk-off win. Calvin Junek tied the game in the sixth with a sacrifice fly and pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win for the Sebastian River, who got four innings and three strikeouts from Kix Hofer and doubles at the plate from Gabriel Burchett and Issac Geller.

Softball

South Fork 5, Okeechobee 2: Abbie Dewaters and Elli Hernandez drove in runs in a five-run sixth innings and Katie Kidwell struck out 12 and didn’t allow an earned run in a complete game effort to lead the Bulldogs (1-0) to victory. Abbey Moore went 2-for-3 and scored a run for South Fork.

Vero Beach 13, Fort Pierce Central 0 (5 innings): Arianna Keyes went 3-for-3 with two triples and three RBI and Dayna Patten went 2-for-4 with four RBI and in the circle struck out eight in a complete game effort to lead the way for Vero (1-0). Gabbie Espich went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Julia Clemenzi went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Devin Snow added a doub

Lincoln Park Academy 17, Fort Pierce Westwood 2 (4 innings): Callan Kloeckner went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI and Madison Davis along with Kaitlyn Ward each went 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead the Greyhounds (1-0) in the win. Makayla Megnauth struck out six in two innings for Lincoln Park.

Boys Lacrosse

St. Edward’s 15, Viera 8: Ricky Savage netted five goals to send the Pirates (2-1) to a road victory. Connor O’Brien added three goals and three assists, Will Russell notched two goals and two assists, Ford Norris added a goal and three assists, Reed Sternberg scored a goal and picked up two assists, Luke Herrman, Eli Barin and Keegan Nyman all scored one goal and Kieran Colgan made eight saves in goal for St. Edward’s.

Jensen Beach 13, Wellington 8: Sean Allen scored five goals and picked up three assists to pace the Falcons (2-1). Hudson Wilfong added three goals and three assists, Layton Mannon scored two goals and added two assists, Connor Ferreira scored two goals, Gio Cascione added one goal and Paolo Smith made 12 saves in goal for Jensen Beach.

Baseball

Martin County 3, Eau Gallie 0 (9 innings): A three-run top of the ninth with RBIs from Stone Preston and Aidan McGucken sent the Tigers (1-0) past last year’s 5A runner-up to a season-opening win. Nick Robert (two innings, four strikeouts), Cody Bennin (three innings, five strikeouts), Alex Diaz (two innings, one strikeout) and Logan Saake (two innings, one strikeout) combined for a two-hit shutout for Martin County.

South Fork 9, Master’s Academy 3: Grant Jones struck out seven in four innings and had a hit and drove in two runs to send the Bulldogs (1-0) to a win in their season opener. John Roberts went 2-for-4, Emory Capps went 1-for-2 with two RBI and Ian Wilson threw three scoreless innings of relief allowing one hit and struck out two for South Fork.

Mihir Manerikar went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Patriots (0-1).
