Fort Pierce Central’s Aiden Gaines takes sixth at 4A state swim and dive

Fort Pierce Central junior diver Aiden Gaines grabbed a sixth place finish at Saturday’s FHSAA 4A Swimming and Diving Championships at Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart.

In his first state competition, Gaines earned 393.60 points in the diving event for the Cobras.

Vero Beach senior Madeline Shields won the B final in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.15 to take ninth place

Shields also took 12th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.60.

Vero Beach’s Madeline Shields competes in heat 1 of the girls 100 yard butterfly during the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association Class 4A Swimming and Diving State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart.

Martin County junior Evan Pelletier was 18th in both the 50 and 100 freestyle and junior Dan Shipman was 20th in the 100 breaststroke for the Tigers.

Pelletier, Shipman, sophomore Lincoln Salazar and senior Andre Mendoza in the 200 medley relay took 18th for Martin County.

Vero Beach junior Henry Hazell took 21st in the 100 backstroke.

Martin County junior diver Eden Glover took 21st in the girls diving event.
