Nine student-athletes are in consideration for TCPalm’s Athlete of the Week for competitions during the week of Feb. 20-25.
Last week, Vero Beach senior weightlifters Arianna Keyes and Karma French were chosen as Co-Athletes of the Week after their gold medal winning performances at the FHSAA State Championships.
Keyes won gold medals in both the Olympic and traditional lifts in the unlimited division and French won the title at 110 pounds in the Olympic lifts.
This week’s poll will open at noon on Monday and will close at Thursday at noon.
Coaches can email scores to [email protected] or [email protected] each night in order for athletes to be considered to be nominated each week.
Christian Kerr, Pine School
In the 2A soccer state championship game at Stetson University on Feb. 23, Kerr scored his first goal of the season in the 51st minute that ended up being the difference in the Knights’ 2-1 victory over Canterbury for Pine School’s second straight state title.
John Roberts, Vero Beach
At the Region 3-3A Championships on Feb. 24-25, Roberts continued his undefeated season at 195 pounds by winning via majority decision 8-0 over Olympic Heights’ Jackson Boileau in the final.
Rocco Hayden, Treasure Coast
At the Region 3-3A Championships on Feb. 24-25, Hayden made his all the way to the title match at 145 pounds and defeated Viera’s Brian Mitchell with a 7-2 decision.
Dylan Fox, Jensen Beach
At the Region 4-1A Championships on Feb. 24-25, Fox ran the tables to win the title at 152 pounds defeating Mater Lakes’ Kalias Nazario with a 4-2 decision in the final.
Kyle Grey, Lincoln Park Academy
At the Region 4-1A Championships on Feb. 24-25, Grey took down all challengers to win the title at 170 pounds defeating Cardinal Gibbons’ Richard Tauriello with a 3-1 decision in the final.
Nick Robert, Martin County
Robert had a great first week for the Tigers as he had a two-homer, five-RBI game on Feb. 21 in a 10-0 win against Port St. Lucie and in two outings on the mound struck out 10 batters and allowed only one hit and an unearned run.
Callan Kloeckner, Lincoln Park Academy
In two wins for the Greyhounds to start the season, Kloeckner hit two home runs in a 3-for-3 night in a 15-10 win over Martin County on Feb. 23 to go along with a 2-for-3, three-RBI game against Fort Pierce Westwood on Feb. 21.
Tromance Smith, Vero Beach
At the St. Cloud Invitational on Feb. 25, Smith swept the 100 and 200-meter dash events posting times of 10.85 and 21.75 seconds.
Joniah Holson, Sebastian River
At the St. Cloud Invitational on Feb. 25, Holson won both the discus and shot put events for the Sharks with best throws of just over 122 feet in the discus and over 37 feet in the shot put.
