Four student-athletes are in consideration for TCPalm’s Athlete of the Week after their performances during the week of Jan. 16-21.
Last week, Somerset College Prep basketball standout Kaeley Ciceron received almost 26,000 votes to earn Athlete of the Week honors. Ciceron scored 25 points against Treasure Coast on Jan. 9, 30 points against Pine School on Jan. 10 and added 17 points against Oxbridge Academy on Jan. 11.
This week’s poll will open at noon on Monday and will close Thursday at noon.
Coaches can email scores to [email protected] or [email protected] each night in order for athletes to be considered to be nominated each week.
Elijah Duval, Martin County
Despite the Tigers losing two close games, Duval did all he could scoring the basketball going for 23 points in a 53-52 loss to Dwyer on Jan. 18 and then exploded for a career-high 48 points in a 92-86 loss at Lake Wales on Jan. 20.
Olivia Titherington, Lincoln Park Academy
In the Greyhounds’ 48-46 win over one of the area’s top teams Jensen Beach on Jan. 17, Titherington scored 24 points that included going 13-for-16 at the foul line and added seven rebounds and four steals.
Patricio Argote, St. Edward’s
In two victories during the week for the Pirates, Argote scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-1 win over Tradition Prep on Jan. 17 and scored both goals including a late long-range strike that won the match in a 2-1 victory over Port St. Lucie on Jan. 19.
Malachi Harriel, Jensen Beach
At the 1A FHSAA Duals on Jan. 20-21, Harriel was just one of the many Falcons that had unbeaten runs. In the regional final, Harriel pinned Mater Lakes Academy’s Kevin Breton in the second period, won with a 19-10 majority decision in the state semifinal against Suwanee’s Benjamin Lewis and scored a pin in the second period over Zephyrhills Christian’s Ashton Liddington in the state final to help the Falcons repeat as state champions.
