Boys basketball district tournaments: Which Treasure Coast teams are in win-or-go-home mode?

District tournaments for boys basketball take place this week as area teams look to earn hardware and secure their berths into the state tournament.

While it has been another season with several local teams well over .500, only a few teams heading into the week appear locked in to play next week regardless of the outcomes of the district tournaments.

Centennial is the highest ranked area team at No. 34 in the state but in a tough Region 2-7A is only ranked fifth. Treasure Coast at No. 74 in the state currently sits in seventh and has a cushion above both Lake Nona at No. 8 and Fort Pierce Central at No. 9.

A potential District 7-7A semifinal between the Titans and Cobras could be a deciding factor to who extends their season and who heads home.

Defending 6A state champion Martin County has had an up and down season and sitting at sixth in Region 2-6A will want to at least reach the District 8-6A finals to make sure they can have the chance to defend their title.

South Fork has had a bounce-back season and is seventh in the same region and with Heritage and Melbourne breathing down their neck at eighth and ninth, the Bulldogs have a critical quarterfinal battle against another local team who has impressed in Port St. Lucie to contend with first.

John Carroll Catholic has a tough road to go through in District 8-3A with a matchup with top seed King’s Academy in the semifinals looming and the Rams may need to at least make a district final as they sit 11th in Region 2-3A.

In District 8-2A, St. Edward’s as the top seed will likely need to hold serve and earn the championship that would come on its home court as they are currently 12th in Region 2-2A.
